Shira Route

High-Altitude Start

The Shira Route begins with a drive to Shira Plateau, making it a shorter option for experienced climbers who have acclimatized beforehand. This scenic route offers views of the Western Breach and Lava Tower. It typically takes 6-7 days and is less crowded, but the high-altitude start can be risky for those unprepared for rapid ascent.

Starts at 3,500 meters (11,483 feet) on Shira Plateau, summits at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) at Uhuru Peak

Duration: 6-7 days.

This route begins with a drive to Shira Plateau, skipping the rainforest zone. It offers excellent views but requires prior acclimatization due to its high starting altitude. The trek joins the Lemosho and Machame routes later for the summit push.
