The Descent Route

Mweka is primarily used for descending from Kilimanjaro after summiting via other routes like Machame or Lemosho. It’s a steep and direct path, requiring strong knees and careful footing. Though not a standalone ascent route, it offers stunning forest views during the descent. It provides an efficient way to return after summiting, completing the adventure.

Elevation

Descends from 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) at Uhuru Peak to 1,650 meters (5,413 feet) at Mweka Gate.

Duration: 1-2 days (for descent).
