Machame Route

The “Whiskey” Route

Machame is a scenic and challenging route, ideal for more adventurous trekkers. It offers diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to rugged ridgelines. This route has good acclimatization opportunities, increasing summit success rates. The trek takes 6-7 days and involves camping, which adds to the sense of adventure. The descent is via the Mweka route, offering new scenery on the way down.

Elevation

Starts at 1,800 meters (5,905 feet) at Machame Gate, summits at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) at Uhuru Peak.

Duration: 6-7 days.

This scenic and challenging route provides an excellent acclimatization profile. Trekkers pass through dense rainforests, volcanic ridges, and the Lava Tower. Its gradual ascent increases success rates, with the descent via the Mweka route.
